Neuropsychological, and psychoeducational, evaluations are important tools for:
Determining psychological diagnoses, and providing input for educational eligibilities for special education
Defining individual cognitive profiles to assist with treatment or educational planning
Obtaining information which can help people gain a better understanding of related challenges they have experienced in the past, and as guidance in considering future decisions.
Objective measurement and monitoring: The brain of a growing child does not stay static, and the brain of an adult with some type of brain dysfunction may not either. So, their cognitive functioning often changes over time. Neuropsychological evaluation can detect stability, improvement, decline, or response to interventions.
Any condition which is hereditary, or present at birth for whatever reason(s), or acquired later on in childhood, or adulthood, which may have effects on a) the brain or spinal cord (the central nervous system), b) the endocrine system (responsible for hormones of all types and stripes, such as insulin and its role in diabetes), or c) other body organs (eg. heart, lungs, etc.) can potentially affect the ways that we think. In such situations neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluations may be of benefit.
